The Problem
AI-related emails arrive in high volume and are time-consuming to read, making it hard to identify what matters or requires action quickly. An automated solution is needed to produce concise, actionable summaries while preserving quick access to the original emails when needed.
High Level Design
A dedicated Windows laptop runs an always-on automation using Docker and n8n to produce an AI email digest three times per day. On each run, the system retrieves only unread Gmail messages labeled AI Related / Summarize AI, cleans and batches their content, and sends a single request to an LLM to generate concise, action-oriented summaries. The resulting digest is emailed to the user and includes one-click links to open the original messages in Gmail. After successful delivery, processed emails are marked read and the label is removed to prevent duplication. The design minimizes cost by batching AI calls, requires no cloud hosting or Workspace account, and operates unattended with automatic restart and simple maintenance.
